Summer is officially winding down, kids are going back to school and fall is right around the corner! When I picture the end of summer I get super excited that the weather won’t be a blazing 109* for weeks on end like it has been for the past few weeks. Hot weather – not a fan. It’s crazy to think we’ve gone from torrential down pours to an average of 109* – and I die every year that it does it. It’s a bare in the kitchen when the weather gets so hot, mainly because we’re working with HOT sugar at 300* and the humidity is UN-real. Our AC cranks out a cool 68* just so we can have a reprieve & get our confections out to our wonderful customers.
When the weather makes it impossible to get anything done – we start to day dream about day drinking & this recipe is at the top of our list! It’s all fresh lemonade and of course some Bourbon thrown in for good measure. A little bit of sweet & refreshing with a tad bit of alcohol makes any temperature feel fine.
Bourbon Mint Lemonade
We like to do a fresh lemonade – however, you’re more than welcome to use you favorite lemonade concentrate or box instead.
Make a simple syrup by adding the sugar and water to a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over low heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
Add a gallon of cold water and the lemon juice to a large glass pitcher. Add the simple syrup and the lemon slices. Stir well.
Bourbon Mint Lemonade:
- 1/2 oz Bourbon (your favorite kind)
- 1/2 oz Limoncello
- 1 cup Lemonade (see above recipe)
- 3-4 fresh mint leaves
In a tall glass, muddle the mint leaves with ice. Mix in Bourbon, Limoncello & lemonade. Now you’re ready for summer to end. 😉
